In recent years, significant work has been carried out in the Republic of Uzbekistan on the development and improvement of science and scientific activity, and the intensification of scientific research. This was facilitated by the repeated meetings of the head of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev with scientists, academicians, researchers, and public representatives, which became another important step in the development of not only science and education, but also the country's economy as a whole. A vivid example of ongoing reforms aimed at the development of science, scientific potential and the strengthening of ties between the sectors of the economy and science has become the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Science and Scientific Activities”, which was discussed by the scientific community and adopted on October 29, 2019.
This most important legislative document establishes the main provisions in the field of science and scientific activity, the powers and roles of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Innovative Development, the Academy of Sciences, ministries and departments, scientific institutions, universities, as well as other organizations conducting scientific research.
The Law pays special attention to the issues of comprehensive state support of scientific activity, organization and financing of scientific research. This Law will serve to further enhance the role of science, enhance scientific activities and the effectiveness of research by scientists of the republic aimed at the sustainable development of the economy of Uzbekistan.
